The aim of this project is to produce LED lights for the Samba. The LEDs will replace the original rear side and brake lights and the rear indicators. The benefits of LEDs should be longer life i.e. never have to replace a bulb again, faster to illuminate, increased impact and visability (greatest benefit for the brake and indicator lights) and generally look different.
Below is one side / brake light prototype. The unit consists of 48 ultrabright LEDs, 24 assigned to side light duties and 24 illuminate when the brake pedal is applied. The initial photos only show the matric of side light LEDs, the brake light LEDs will fill the remaining positions. The shape and arrangement of the two sets of LEDs is designed to show a definite increase in light output and shape of light output when the brake pedal is used. Initial concerns are that the side lights will be overly bright compaired to the brake lights. The unit will be wired to illuminate all LEDS when the brakes are applied.
